20100226 - Revising a Camping Trip

Setting

** polychrome**

The Polychrome 2.0 is a serious upgrade in both style and function. Gone is the soft-industrial warehouse look, the walls repainted from their worn brick color to a more warm rich red adobe. The walls are adorned with old Sci-Fi posters and paintings by independent local artists.

The entire cafe is situated around a circular bar-like counter in the very center of the room which, in turn, surrounds the chrome and copper homemade monstrosity Frankenchino machine the only surviving relic of the previous Polychrome. Frankenchino billows steam and froth from it's masses of pipes and valves, the temperature and levels of fluids measured by gleaming old fashioned pressure gages and controlled by a plethora of levers and turn-gaskets. Comfortable high backed chromed stools with leather upholstery orbit the counter, which through it's thick Plexiglas surface into it's refrigerated interior can be seen sandwiches and pastries and other snacks in refrigerated. Above the counter is an outfacing circle of LCD TVs showing various feeds off the Internet.

Circular segmented couches surround low black coffee tables around the cafe, each one having a computer monitor on a swivel in the center and a cordless keyboard and mouse and allowing the patrons full and free net access. In one corner there are more dedicated semi-private computer terminals at high-mounted and a kiosk where one can rent a laptop. Another corner sports an Internet jukebox which has been built into the body of a full sized Robby the Robot replica. Another corner has a small stage from which patrons can enjoy independent bands or poets on certain nights. The last corner is set up with merchandise such as books, magazines, shirts, mugs and gadgets.

Scene

Robert's arrival is quiet, and he orders the coffee before he glances around the room, Receiving it, he turns his feet towards the other man, indicating the chair opposite. "Room for another?" The low question is delivered with a tilt of his head, giving Logan a flicker of a smile.

Logan nods, having glanced up when Robert walked in, nudging the other chair out with his foot, "Sure, take a seat. How're things?" He folds up his paper then, setting it off to one side to clear the table of all but his own cup of coffee.

Robert takes the nudged seat, setting his coffee down on the table, "They progress." The reply isn't particularly informative, as he settles back into his chair, making himself at home. "Yourself?" The question is apparently one he is interested in, a direct glance sent Logan's way.

Logan hmms, leaning back a bit and taking a sip from his cup. "I'm alright. Did some sparring this morning, think I'm a bit out of shape, let myself get run around the mat a lot more than I should've." He pauses a moment and then seems to remember, "Oh..and I got a note from MJ the other day, settling the other issue."

"Need to get some practice in then." The brief flicker of humor dies as the second topic is raised. Robert nods, slowly, more seriously. "I am glad of it. Does it settle it?" His gaze moves across the other's face, thoughtfully as he reaches for his coffee cup.

"Yes I do..need to get back into training it would seem..I've let myself get lazy." Logan replies with a faint hint of a self derisive smile. He nods once more letting his smile slip back to a more serious expression, "It does.. Actually spoke to her the other day as well, she gave me a little something that I'm going to have a further look at, actually have the lab doing so now."

"That item would be very useful for the camping trip." Robert's soft reply is given with a wry smile, a tilt of his head before he takes a quiet sip of his coffee. "Have you seen Javier, or any of the family here today?" Robert question is abrupt, spoken with a glance across in case any of them had snuck in.

Logan hmms, shaking his head slightly, "No, can't say that I've seen any of them. Not sure that I've been introduced to Javier as of yet." He smiles just slightly, "Yes, I think that if I can get that particular item in good order again it might prove very useful…almost heart warming."

"I'm sure I will run into them in time. I just wanted a quiet word about the need for some discretion and families, in these times." He takes a swig of his coffee, leaning back in the chair, "Heart warming, is it?"

Logan ahhs, nods. "Discretion is always a good thing…at least in my opinion. " He shrugs slightly, "Sure..it's heart warming when you can provide a tailored reception when guests arrive, isn't it?"

"Definitely so. I just need to remind some people that, even knowing certain words, they shouldn't bandy they shouldn't bandy them around in public. Unless they wish their own family to receive the same treatment." The slightest curl of his upper lip vanishes almost as soon as it appears. "And I hope our reception for our guest will be appropriately warm hearted?"

Logan ahhs, frowns slightly, "Yes…I think that would be a good thing indeed. "I think we can arrange that, one way or the other..even if things don't play out with this particular item." Reaching up, he rubs lightly at his chin as he considers things quietly. "We should definitely talk a bit about that sort of thing before the time of the trip gets too much closer."

"I think it might be wise to sit down this week, discuss the details of the trip." Robert agrees softly, reaching for his coffee to take another swig. "There are many smaller details to be noted, like transport and paperwork." He is clearly thinking, his head tilted on one side.

Logan hmmms, nods. "Indeed.. though I think I'm going to plan on arriving relatively early. Just let me know when you'd like to meet, I'll be sure to be there." He smiles a bit and looks slowly around the room, his words not a very good match for his apparent good humor, "It will be good to finally get the reason for this trip behind us."

"I think perhaps, it might be wise for several people to arrive early, to set up camp… I believe I have some business that will make me late to the party." He takes another sip, tilting his head slightly, considering. "It will be very good."

"Late? With your usual .. partners I'd hope?" Logan asks with a curious lifting of one eyebrow, "It's entirely likely that we'll not be the only ones arriving early, so too late…might be too late entirely."

There is a flicker of frustration in the man as he shifts in his seat, glancing away. "I suppose so. It is not a normal position for me, Logan, and this bites a little." The admission is almost a mumble, as he finishes his coffee, and then he is businesslike once more. "I think if Riley joins you, and Jack and Monty travel with me, that gives us preparation, setting up the camp and all… "

Logan doesn't react to any note of frusteration he might..or might not see from Robert, he only nods. "That might work. I'd like to know a bit more about Riley's approach to things…as we're likely to need to set things up relatively…unobtrusively and he seems to be a bit more of a direct person. "

Robert nods slowly, a flicker of a frown as he considers. "I think perhaps we need to sit and plan our trip more clearly, make sure that we all know our jobs." His coffee finished, he seems on edge, glancing back up at the counter. "I think I will head home. I will arrange a meeting…"

Logan watches the other man's reaction and frowns slightly, "I had no intention to make things more difficult on you, Robert. I'm just very used to planning these sort of trips out…/very/ carefully."

"You are correct to think so, Logan. This is not my area of expertise." The admission is softened by a slight, wry smile as he rises. "You are right, planning is essential." With that, he nods, turning to leave.
