WHAT IS A FETISH?

A fetish is a magical item that is highly prized by sorcerers of every tradition. They are guarded jealously by their owners for their ability to enhance the power of a caster's magic, or lessen the backlash of channeling powerful energies.

A fetish is created when a sorcerer imbues it with his or her essence, his or her very aura. Fetishes take time to make; the object being made into a fetish must be meditated over once every twenty-four hours until it is imbued with the aura of the sorcerer. Each fetish can either boost one (1) school of magic, or it may reduce the amount of drain that a sorcerer takes when casting a certain school of magic by an amount dependent on the power of the fetish. Fractions of a point of drain are rounded down; this protection can reduce Drain to zero.

HOW DO I MAKE A FETISH?

To make a fetish one must meditate over the object they are imbuing, this item must be an inanimate or dead object, e.g. it could be a pocket watch or a mouse skull, but not a live mouse. Creating a fetish is an extended contest, each roll represents one (1) hour (only one roll per day) of work on your fetish, and each success is added to or subtracted from your total. You must reach one of the levels listed below for the fetish to be finished, and one must state ahead of time which level one is attempting to create. While one cannot exceed this power of fetish with lucky rolls, one can stop early, settling for a lesser fetish. If one ever rolls a 100 on a roll and therefore get a maxium failure the fetish is destroyed and one must start over. Furthermore if one ever reaches negative one hundred (-100) in total the fetish destroyed and one takes damage equal to the last roll divided by five (5) in a spiritual backlash.

1: Open a +request entited FETISH: <YOUR NAME>. Then tell staff what kind of fetish you are making; one that boosts your abilities or cancels drain from magic, which magic school/ability you are focusing on, and which level of success you are going for.

2: Start you rolling with a staff witness. Staff may have you roll all at once, and total up how many days until your fetish is created (or not created) and then issue you the fetish (via +cnote) once that amount of time is up or staff may have you roll once per IC day with them as witness.

HOW LONG DOES MY FETISH LAST?

Fetishes are permanent until broken.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY FETISH IS BROKEN?

If a fetish you have created is broken because it holds a piece of your soul or aura you take a certain amount of damage. The amount of damage will be determined by staff on a case by case basis, depending on the size of the fetish and the level of it, and how badly the fetish was broken.

CAN A FETISH BE MADE TO BOOST A SCHOOL AND REDUCE DRAIN?

No. A fetish cannot do both, once it is imbued with energy to reduce drain it cannot then boost your magic.

CAN I UPGRADE MY FETISH?

No. Once a fetish has been allowed to "cool" it will not accept any more energy.

CAN SOMEONE ELSE USE MY FETISH?

Yes. This is why owners guard their fetishes jealously. Anyone who has that sort of magic or ability can use the fetish, assuming they figure out what it is.

CAN I USE TWO FETISHES AT ONCE?

Yes. You can use up to two fetishes per school of magic, one to boost power and one to reduce drain. They must be separate fetishes, and must be held, handled, or otherwise "used", typically taking up both of your hands.

CAN MY FETISH WORK FOR MORE THAN ONE SCHOOL?

No. Fetishes can only reduce the drain or boost for one (1) school per fetish.
