A small cafe with wide picture windows overlooks one side of Hyde Park. A brass-plated counter runs along the far wall, small brass-topped tables scattered about here and there over rough black and white tiled flooring. The tables and seating (a few sofas are tucked off by the bathrooms) have a large space between them, leaving a broad and somewhat ungainly opening dead-center of the room.
During the day, the Phoenix Coop is a coffee house and cafe that borders on health food. A magazine section stands by the sofas and bathrooms, often used as a makeshift 'periodical literature library' for students with nothing better to do between classes. During the night, the open space in the middle of the room is often occupied by one of many local student bands or open-mike poetry slam.
