Lukoi (WereWolves)
Lukoi is the pack-name traditionally taken by werewolves. Since the wolf-strain of lycanthropy is more common than the other types, there's more recorded tradition for them and their ways.
- The male leader is called the Ulfric, the female mate is called the Lupa (the office of Lupa decided by the Ulfric's whim).
- The second(s) in command are often called the Freki (and/or Geri).
- The Ulfric has bodyguards/secretaries, the Skoll (and/or the Hati).
- The Bolverk is the individual charged with the Ulfric's dirty work, while the aforementioned Hati/Skoll does the formal work.
- The Eros/Eranthe is the male/female who teaches temperamental shifters how to not shift mid-stress.
- The Fenrir is the leading contender for Ulfric status.
- Often there is a human Vargamor who serves as an adviser (oftentimes, the appointed Vargamor is a person with some magical or psychic aptitude, but not always).
- The second(s) in command are often called the Freki (and/or Geri).
For Freki vs Geri, and Skoll vs Hati, the former of each is the most commonly used office-name when compared to the latter. It's also not uncommon for the former to be applied to a male, while the latter is used when applied to a female in office. Quite frankly, it's up to the individual Ulfric to decide what the various offices cover and what they're called. It's even been known for there to be a female Ulfrica with a male Lupo or Lupus, but these are generally reserved as material for off-color inside-jokes. Most often if the leader of a pack is a female, she sticks with the title of Ulfric.
Obviously, the historical acceptance of the Werewolves by the Norse and the Roman Empire greatly influenced their culture.
As with every other lycanthropic pack or any other support group, there is no real method for "tradition" to be passed down from old shifter to new shifter other than word of mouth and peer-pressure. As such, it is not unheard of for some packs to eschew the "traditional setup" and go with their own method of organization (EG: Perhaps where the leader(s) is/are chosen annually by the pack? Perhaps no clear leader, with the pack's actions decided by majority vote? Perhaps a triumvirate, where there are three leaders of equal political power?). As with all shifter packs, whatever is "right" and whatever is "wrong" is purely based on what the pack's leader decrees, up until the leader is deposed for their unpopular views.
